Column I Column II
(i) Stomata (b) Transpiration
(ii) Xylem (d) Transport of water
(iii) Root hairs (a) Absorption of water
(iv) Phloem (c) Transport of food
82. The blood from the heart is transported to all parts of the body by the ____________. Arteries .
83.Haemoglobin is present in ___________ cells. Red Blood.
84.Arteries and veins are joined by a network of ____________ . Blood Vessals.
85.The rhythmic expansion and contraction of the heart is called _______. Heartbeat.
86. The main excretory product in human beings is ___________ . Urea.
87. Sweat contains water and __________ . Salts.
88. Kidneys eliminate the waste materials in the liquid form called ________. Urine.
89.Water reaches great heights in the trees because of suction pull caused by ________ . Transpiration.
90.In plants, water is transported through Xylem.
91. Why is transport of materials necessary in a plant or in an animal? Explain Body absorbs nutrients from food. Nutrients should ultimately reach each cells of plant and animal. So, transportation of nutrients from small intestine to various cells in animals, and water and nutrients from roots to leaves in plants becomes necessary. Cells of the body generate energy as well as waste products such as water and carbon dioxide. To reject these waste products from the body transportation of waste becomes necessary. Thus, transport of materials necessary in a plant and an animal
92.What will happen if there are no platelets in the blood? Platelets help the body to plug bleeding through wounds. Absence of it may cause hectic bleeding and death by loosing blood.
93.What are stomata? Give two functions of stomata Stomata are minute openings on the outer leaf skin layer. Their main function is to allow gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor and oxygen to move rapidly into and out of the leaf.
94. Does transpiration serve any useful function in the plants? Explain. The evaporation of water from leaves generates a suction pull which can pull water to great heights in the tall trees. Transpiration also cools the plant.
95.What are the components of blood? Plasma, Red Blood Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells(WBC) and platelets are major components of blood. The fluid part of the blood is called plasma. Red blood cells (RBC) which contain a red pigment called haemoglobin which makes blood appear red. Haemoglobin binds with oxygen and transports it to all the parts of the body and ultimately to all the cells. White blood cells (WBC) which fight against germs that may enter our body. Platelets let blood to clot when body suffered with cuts.
96.Why is blood needed by all the parts of a body? Every nook and corner of our body requires oxygen and nutrients to create energy by minute cells. Therefore, blood is needed by all parts of the body .
97. What makes the blood look red? Red blood cells (RBC) which contain a red pigment called haemoglobin which makes blood appear red.
98. Describe the function of the heart. The heart is an organ which beats continuously to act as a pump for the transport of blood, which carries other substances with it.
99. Why is it necessary to excrete waste products? When our cells perform their functions, certain waste products are released. These are toxic and hence need to be removed from the body.
Find out about blood groups and their importance.
Get information about Electroencephalography (ECG).
